Viking Wool Collar – Wilma

On hold. Viking wool collar handcrafted using Wilma’s shaggy wild fleece. This is a large size collar that extends down the back it is a bit of a cape/collar hybrid designed to keep out the cold and look amazing. Made entirely by sheep and hand from natural wool. The felted underside is thick and inlaid with a pretty design made from hand-spun yarn carefully worked into the felt. The inner edge of the collar has been hand-stitched with handspun yarn and two lengths of matching felted cord are attached to each side enabling you to securely fasten the collar and adding to its beautiful wild design. A very unique special piece made with love and care that will keep you warm in the wilderness and make a statement at ceremonies, celebrations and festivals. It is perfect for weddings, vikings, halloween costumes, cosplay and fancy dress.

It is important to me to know where every part of my crafts comes from and I am always open and honest with you lot too. The curly fleece used to make this collar comes from Wilma the Greyface Dartmoor sheep. The other woolly elements come from other sheep in the flock, Alice, Norbert, Lily and Daffodil have all contributed. Everything is made by my own hands and the sheep here.

Size: A large size collar that will fit most if not all adults. Please see the last two photos for some approximate measurements.

Wool texture: The feel of this fleece is hairy and coarse. The underside felt may feel prickly where the base of the locks have worked through the felt, this means it is well felted.

Colour: Mostly creamy white with light grey decoration on the underside felt.

VM(aka hay/grass seeds etc): I have done my very best to remove any remnants of the Welsh hillside from this collar. However, you may still find the odd little bit of dried leaf and grass seeds as this is a natural handmade piece.

All felted fleece pieces moult or shed to some degree some more than others. With this particular fleece collar from Wilma there is moderate hairloss this is the nature of coarse hairy fleeces.

All my sheep are hand-shorn by me with traditional blade shears taking great care not to harm the sheep or fleece…

This is a completely handmade product with almost every element created by myself andWilma and the flock at our farm in Wales. The sale of it directly sustains the sheep and enables them to live out their whole lives here munching away growing beautiful wool. You can’t get more ethical than that.

Viking Fleece Collar ‘Native’ handmade from Dandelion’s fleece…

Viking fleece collar handmade with Dandelion’s dreamy fleece. This beautiful wild collar is reversible it has a pretty pattern felted into the underside and two braided tassels with feathers. Me being me I forgot to photograph the collar being displayed and worn in reverse so more photos shall be added! Large in size this collar easily reaches my own waist. A rugged wild piece that will keep you warm in the wilderness and make a statement at festivals. It is perfect for costumes and fancy dress. I have hand stitched around the inner edge of the collar as a finishing touch too for me the stitching just makes these collars look complete.

It is important to me to know where every part of my crafts comes from and I am always open and honest with you lot too. The hairy fleece part of this collar as you’ve gathered by now is fleece from Dandelion. More specifically this collar is formed from locks from her 2021 fleece. The carded wool on the back is from Pip, Marmalade and Norbert. Lastly, the yarn used for the stitching and decoration is my own handspun, it is a mix of wool from those same 3 sheep. Everything is made by my own hands and the sheep.

Size: A large size collar it easily reaches past my own waist (I’m not very big though so it will wear differently depending on your size). Please see the photos for approximate measurements.

Wool texture: The feel of this fleece is quite hairy! The underside felt is a little on the rough side and may feel itchy if worn directly against the skin.

Colour: A mix of light tan and white colour locks.

VM(aka hay/grass seeds etc): I have done my best to remove any remnants of the Welsh hillside from this collar. However, it is you may still find the odd little bit of dried leaf and grass seeds as this is a natural handmade piece.

All felted fleece pieces moult or shed to some degree some more than others. With this particular fleece collar from Dandelion, it does moult a little as is normal for hairy fleeces.

Dandelion is one of my bestest sheep buddies she is very naughty which is probably why I love her so. She launches herself at me when I am trying to feed the flock often sending me flying and spilling the food. Dandelion refuses to eat feed from the feed troughs, she will only eat from the bucket before the other sheep, shes a bit of a snob. Dandelion also habitually grazes through the fences, I hardly ever see her grazing from the field she is actually in, shes always got her head through a fence eating the ‘greener’ grass on the other side.

All my sheep are hand-shorn by me with traditional blade shears taking great care not to harm the sheep or fleece…

This is a completely handmade product with almost every element created by myself and Humphrey and the flock at our farm in Wales. The sale of it directly sustains the sheep and enables them to live out their whole lives here munching away growing beautiful wool. You can’t get more ethical than that.

A lot of time, care and love go into all my items they are all individually made one at a time by just 1 pair of hands – from caring for and shearing the sheep, washing the wool and crafting an item to the packaging and posting – handmade in the truest sense of the word.

Felted Fleece Collar ‘Fox’ handmade from Humphrey’s fleece…

Felted fleece collar handmade with Humphrey’s fleece. A rich Autumnal foxy colour this collar is perfect for this time of year. A smaller more refined size collar it covers the shoulders perfectly and can be worn by an adult or child alike. This collar is soft and flexible and comfortable to wear. A lovely rustic piece ideal to suggle up in on a winter’s night, keep you warm in the wilderness, make a statement or perfect as part of a costume – I can just picture this as part of a fox or lion outfit! I have hand stitched around the inner edge of the collar as a finishing touch too.

It is important to me to know where every part of my crafts comes from and I am always open and honest with you lot too. The fluffy part of this collar as you’ve gathered by now is fleece from Humphrey. More specifically this collar is formed from locks from his 1st lamb fleece. There are some photos of Humphrey as a lamb wearing this exact fleece. The carded wool on the back is from a Shetland sheep that comes from the Aklah flock in Malton. Lastly, the yarn used for the stitching is my own handspun, it is wool from Pip’s 1st lamb fleece so it’s lovely and soft too. Everything is made by my own hands and the sheep.

Size: A smaller more refined size collar it can be worn by an adult or child alike. Please see the photos for an approximate measurements.

Wool texture: The feel of this fleece is lovely and soft!

Colour: A rich fox brown/tan with sun-bleached tips.

With this particular fleece collar from Humphrey there is very little moulting.

Humphrey is a wether (castrated male) Icelandic cross sheep who lives with his mum Harriet and dad Sven and the rest of the flock at our home on the Llyn Peninsular in North Wales. Humphrey is a very cheeky character who loves shoving his nose in pockets to sniff out a treat. His party trick is unzipping coats and hoodies and sometimes even chewing off said zip and attempting to eat it. His best buddies (and partners in crime!) are Ivar and Elder, the three of them are nearly always hanging about together making mischief!

We keep a well-loved, high welfare flock of pet and rescue sheep on the Llyn Peninsular in North Wales. Our sheep are a part of the family and each is known by name. All our wool and makes are vegetarian-friendly as we do not breed or sell sheep for the meat market and our sheep live out their natural lives with us. I am a full-time mum and shepherdess. In my (none existent!) free time I make things from wool from the sheep in order to sustain them.
