Felted Fleece Rug ‘Coloured Mule’ – Vegetarian Sheepskin Natural Wool Sheep Friendly Handmade in Wales Sustainable and Traceable

£150.00

Handmade felted fleece ‘vegetarian sheepskin’ rug made from a local Coloured Mule sheep fleece.. 100% Natural wool

This fleece came not from one of my flock but from a sheep who belongs to a friend. She is a coloured mule sheep and is part of a high welfare fibre flock who graze the hills near Caernarfon. I bought the raw shorn fleece and so the proceeds from this sale will actually help support both our flocks. A Coloured Mule is a cross between a Blue Face Leicester tup and a hill breed ewe which happened to have an unusual coloured lamb.

This is a truly handmade item made from only natural wool. The beautiful beige’s and browns are the natural colours of the sheep themselves. The carded wool used for the back is from my sheep and hand-carded by myself. I used a mixture of colours in the backing to create an interesting complimentary reverse side to the fleece. Once the rug was dry I needle felted in some spare curls from this same fleece in a few areas that were a little bare. This rug has a nice shape to it and is a very versatile size.

This fleece would look lovely as a bedside rug or bathmat. It would also sit well on a sofa or bed due to its soft snuggly texture. It is a very pretty light beige/creamy grey colour with lovely curls here and there. Being made of only wool (and maybe the odd bit of hay…) it is completely biodegradable and kind to our planet…

This particular rug moults very little if at all.

Dimensions: Measurements taken on the fleece side are at the longest 110cm long x 70cm wide. The rug has a natural irregular shape and so some areas may measure a little wider or narrower.

Wool texture: The feel of this fleece is medium soft and squishy.

Colour: The colour of this rug is a very pretty natural cream and beige with darker grey/brown areas on the edges.

VM(aka hay/grass seeds etc): I spent some time removing the most noticeable bits of debris within this fleece so there is very little if any hay/grass seeds to be found in this one.

If you have any questions or queries at all please send me a message I will be happy to help.

We keep a well-loved, high welfare, colourful flock of sheep on the Llyn Peninsular in North Wales. Our sheep are a part of the family and each is known by name. All our wool and makes are vegetarian-friendly as we do not breed or sell sheep into the food chain and our sheep live out their natural lives with us. I am a fulltime mum and slave to sheep! In my (none existent!) free time I make things from wool from the sheep in order to sustain them.
