Rustic handmade 100% wool decorative cushion. All natural and all wool made using a little Herdwick fleece grown by a British sheep and made entirely by one pair of hands at our smallholding in Wales. One side is a hairy wild felted fleece and the reverse is a more solid piece of felt. These two sides have been stritched together with some very chunky handspun wool from the same fleece and the cushion has been stuffed with natural washed fleece from my own sheep before being stitched closed. This cushion 100% handmade and 100% natural wool. It is very wild and rustic looking.
This is a beautifully natural unique item, perfect as a gift or treat for your home! This particular cushion is best suited as a purely decorative piece to look upon or a prop due to the nature of the herdwick wool which is a very coarse kempy, hairy wool it is not soft to the touch but rather rough and this cushion does shed hairs quite readily especially when rubbed against. The cushion has quite an irregular shape due to the front and back pieces being slightly different shapes, this is much more noticable on the reverse than on the hairy front side. All these factors have been taken in to consideration in the price of this particular cushion. Please consider this before purchasing.
The sheep who provided the wool is a breed of sheep called a Herdwick. Typically I use fleeces from my own flock for my crafts but not on this occasion. The fleece came from a British Herdwick sheep. The stuffing wool coming from one of my own sheep.
If you have and questions please get in touch.
Measurements are approx 48 x 48 cm wide woollen area. As mentioned above, this is handmade and is not perfectly uniform like a factory produced item would be, in particular the reverse. And unlike most factory produced items this is eco-friendly, biodegradable, traceable right back to the individual sheep who grew the wool and the sale of it will directly support my sheep flock and own family.
As wool is a wonderful natural product from a happy sheep and has been completely processed by my own hands there is most likely still the odd grass seed and whisp of hay to be found amongst the fibres though I have done my best to remove them. This is the beauty of nature and sheep 🙂
A lot of time, care and love go into all my items they are all individually made one at a time by just 1 pair of hands – from caring for and shearing the sheep, washing the wool and crafting an item to the packaging and posting – handmade in the truest sense of the word.

We keep a well loved, high welfare flock of pet and rescue sheep on the Llyn Peninsular in North Wales. Our sheep are a part of the family and each is known by name. All our wool and makes are vegetarian-friendly as we do not breed or sell sheep for the meat market and our sheep live out their natural lives with us. I am a fulltime mum and slave to sheep! In my (none existent!) free time I make things from wool from the sheep in order to sustain them.
You can learn more about us and meet the sheep on our website www.patchworksheep.co.uk and follow our sheep on Facebook @patchworksheep or Instagram patchworksheep_
