Description

Rustic handmade 100% wool cushion large and decorative.

All natural and all wool from Mochi the sheep and made entirely by one pair of hands (and a sheep) at our smallholding in Wales.

One side is a hairy wild felted fleece and the reverse is woven by hand on a peg loom. These two sides have been stitched together with some very chunky handspun wool from the same fleece and the cushion has been stuffed with natural washed fleece from our other sheep before being stitched closed. This wool cushion is 100% handmade and 100% natural wool. It is a large size, very soft and snuggly.

The felted fleece was achieved by placing individual locks into a wooden frame and layering hand-carded wool on the cut ends then carefully felted to retain the fleece appearance. This is a very time-consuming process but gives a great effect once finished. Cushions and rugs made in this way are generally a little more expensive due to the extra time involved.

Mochi the sheep lives on our smallholding with her daughter Tawny, granddaughter Rhubarb, and many other woolly friends who have a home for life here. This beautiful wool cushion was handmade at our home by myself using Mochi’s 2019 sheared fleece.. It is a beautiful range of soft grey colours and looks stunning in a rustic/farmhouse style setting.

There may be the odd bit of natural vegetable matter such as little pieces of hay embedded deep within the fleece. All part of the natural charm and very normal to find amongst the fleece of a sheep!

Perfect as a gift or treat for your home! This is not just a wool cushion but a unique piece of art and there will never be another exactly the same! Whilst it took me many many hours to make it, Mochi spent a whole year growing the wool used! The texture of the wool is soft on both sides this cushion is very cuddly. The felted side may moult a very small amount. Due to the size and being 100% wool this cushion is quite heavy!

If you have any questions please get in touch.

Measurements are approx 58 x 54 cm. As mentioned above, this is handmade and is not perfectly uniform like a factory produced item would be, in particular the reverse. And unlike most factory produced items this is eco-friendly, biodegradable, traceable right back to the individual sheep who grew the wool and the sale of it will directly support my sheep flock and own family.

As wool is a wonderful natural product from a happy sheep and has been completely processed by my own hands there is most likely still the odd grass seed and whisp of hay to be found amongst the fibres though I have done my best to remove them. This is the beauty of nature and sheep 🙂

We keep a well loved, high welfare flock of pet and rescue sheep on the Llyn Peninsular in North Wales. Our sheep are a part of the family and each is known by name. All our wool and makes are vegetarian-friendly as we do not breed or sell sheep for the meat market and our sheep live out their natural lives with us. I am a fulltime mum and slave to sheep! In my (none existent!) free time I make things from wool from the sheep in order to sustain them.
