Unicorn Needle Felt Wool Decoration ‘Seren’ – Handcrafted in Wales

£60.00

Unicorn Needle Felt Wool Sculpture ‘Seren’

Meet Seren the fabulous felt Unicorn. She is handmade with love and wool and a little magic!

Seren is the beautiful Welsh word for ‘star’. This starry unicorn is made entirely from sheep wool, driftwood and wire. She has a little wire inside her horn, neck and fantastical tail. These parts of her are poseable, you can carefully bend them a little and adjust the way they look. Her legs are made from driftwood that I collected locally from Nant Gwythern beach. Seren has the most pretty mane and fabulous long tail made from dainty wool curls. I love making felt unicorns they’re just so pretty and fun to dream up and bring to life. Each one is unique and starts life as a daydream in my head. Seren would make a very special gift and is perfect to decorate the home of any unicorn fan! She is not a children’s toy and suitable for decorative purposes only please bear that in mind.

Size: Seren measures approx 16cm nose to bum or approx 24cm if measured from nose to the tip of her wonderful woolly tail.  She stands 16.5cm tall from base of the leg to the ear tip (or 20cm if measured to the tip of her horn. She is one of the larger and more detailed unicorns I’ve made so far.

The process: Seren is made with a process called needle felting – the wool is shaped and sculptured and repeatedly stabbed with a special barbed needle causing it to felt. Sometimes wire is wrapped with the wool to make the finished item poseable as is the case with Seren’s horn, tail and neck. Seren’s body is made with wool from a sheep called Harley, you can see a photo of him on the gallery. The body is made from scratch with solid wool, there is no stuffing or frame beneath. Soft wool is carefully layered and shaped and repeatedly stabbed and sculptured until it felts into a hard solid body. Seren’t legs are made from driftwood foraged from Nant Gwythern beach. The are cut and sanded and inserted and glued into the body. The curly coloured wool used for the mane and tail comes from Norbert and Lily the sheep. These curls are felted into the neck for the mane and around a wire for the tail. The little details such as the stars on Seren’s body are felted on by hand at the end. To create coloured wool white fleeces were carefully washed and then popped in a large bubbling pan, a little magic dye was added, given a good stir and ‘poof’ the white wool is transformed!

All my needle-felted items are very solidly felted with carefully added details. They are crafted with a lot of love and care. They are not rushed so they take a surprising amount of time to make not including the time spent shearing the sheep, washing the wool, carding, dyeing and making the wooden legs. This is a completely handmade product every wool element has been created by my hands and the flock at our farm in Wales – the sale of this item directly sustains the sheep it pays for their feed and upkeep of the land enabling the flock to live long happy lives here munching away growing wonderful wool.

Please noteThis is NOT a children’s toy. It has been created for display and decoration purposes only. Do NOT give to babies and small children. It is has been carefully made and designed to be a decoration only and will not withstand rough play.

If you have any questions or queries at all please send me a message I will be happy to help.

You can meet the sheep who grow the wool here.

We keep a well-loved, high welfare flock of pet and rescue sheep on the Llyn Peninsular in North Wales. Our sheep are a part of the family and each is known by name. All our wool and makes are vegetarian-friendly as we do not breed or sell sheep for the meat market and our sheep live out their natural lives with us. I am a full-time mum and shepherdess. In my (none existent!) free time I make things from wool from the sheep in order to sustain them.
