Felted Halloween Spider Decoration
These spooky little felted Halloween spider decorations have been brought to life with sheep’s wool and a sprinkling of magic! I call these spiders ‘scrap spiders’ because they are made using leftover bits of wool, the long dangly legs are made of handspun wool that are remnants from various peg loom rug and cushion projects, the ‘offcuts’ – given a new lease of life! I don’t waste a thing here. These two spiders are called Simon and Sam. Simon is a bit larger than Sam, he clearly has had more than his share of flies! They would make perfect gifts for any spider lovers and budding witches/wizards out there! They also make lovely Autumn and Halloween decorations. I have a few of these spiders hanging from a dead tree in my workshop where they are very at home as I am sure they would be in hanging from a shelf in any home. I even think they would make super alternative Christmas decorations. They are completely natural, biodegradable, kind to sheep and the planet.
I dreamt up these dangly spiders in 2020 as a fun thing to make with my daughter Elsie as both she and her brother love spiders! They are such a good use for all the scraps of dark brown wool offcuts I had left from some peg loom rugs. Living in an old stone house with old outbuildings and a big wooden barn surrounded by fields we see a lot of spiders. My favorite are their glistening cobwebs that decorate the grass in the fields on a morning.
This listing is for 1 spider from the photos, please view the photos identifying them and select which you would like (either Simon or Sam) from the drop-down menu. Simon is bigger size hence the bigger price. The spiders are each presented in a simple card gift box – a perfect present for someone or perhaps for yourself!
The spiders are made from natural wool from my sheep Blossom and Taragon pictured (the body is Blossom’s wool and the legs on these particular spiders come from Taragon) the only parts that are not wool from my flock are the jute twine that they hang from.
SIMON SPIDER – Including the legs he is roughly 8cm wide x 12 cm long (including string 30cm) Body only is a ball around 3cm diameter
SAM SPIDER – Including the legs he is roughly 7/8cm wide x 10 cm long (including string 28cm) Body only is a ball around 2cm diameter
All my needle felted items are very solidly felted with carefully added details. They are crafted with a lot of love and care and not rushed so they take a surprising amount of time to make. That is not including the time spent shearing the sheep, washing the wool, carding, dyeing or spinning the little legs!
Please note – This is NOT a toy. It has been created for display and decoration purposes only. It is made from small needle felted wool pieces and hairy textured wool and so could pose a hazard for babies or small children. Please do not give to children under 3 years old.
A lot of time, care and love go into all my items they are all individually made one at a time by just 1 pair of hands – from caring for and shearing the sheep, washing the wool and crafting an item to the packaging and posting – handmade in the truest sense of the word.

We keep a well-loved, high welfare flock of pet and rescue sheep on the Llyn Peninsular in North Wales. Our sheep are a part of the family and each is known by name. All our wool and makes are vegetarian-friendly as we do not breed or sell sheep for the meat market and our sheep live out their natural lives with us. I am a full-time mum and shepherdess. In my (none existent!) free time I make things from wool from the sheep in order to sustain them.
