Beautiful handwoven large wool rug made using the 2017 & 2018 fleeces grown and donated by Fern pictured.
I sheared these fleeces myself with hand shears and then washed them before carefully weaving them on a peg loom. This is a beautifully unique one-off item, perfect as a gift or treat for your home!
The sheep who provided the wool is called Fern, she is a beautiful Soay cross Jacob/Shetland sheep, you can see her in the photos. Her fleece is a wonderful primitive hill type fleece, that is a mix of fine soft wool and coarse kemp & guard hairs, she is a much-loved member of the team and is in the process of growing another fleece as I type! This is her natural colour and is 100% wool with natural jute twine used for the warp. It is a beautiful natural product that has not been heavily processed, you may find the odd grass seed or plant leaf embedded in the wool that just adds to the lovely character and pureness of the piece. You may also notice that your rug gets fluffier or felts over time, it may sometimes shed hair/wool as is the nature of these rugs, it is a ‘living’ rug after all!
Perfect for a wooden or tile floor or would also be lovely as a cover on a chair or sofa, it is nice and soft. It is designed for light use in the home and will last for years to come.
Measurements are approx 112 cm long by 62 cm wide woollen area. Measured with the jute fringes outstretched it is approx 132 cm in length. As it is handmade it is not perfectly uniform like a factory produced item would be. And unlike most factory produced items this is eco-friendly, biodegradable, traceable right back to the individual sheep who grew the wool and the sale of it will directly support my sheep flock and family.
