Felted Fleece Rug ‘Welsh Mountain’ – Vegetarian Sheepskin Natural Wool Sheep Friendly Handmade in Wales

£70.00

Handmade felted fleece rug ‘vegetarian sheepskin’ made from a local Welsh Mountain sheep fleece.

Beautiful wild-looking felted fleece rug. This little rug was made from part of a locally grown fleece that I was kindly given by a family friend. Her hobby flock of sheep graze the cliffs near Tudweiliog.

This is a truly handmade natural 100% wool item. The carded wool used for the back comes from our own sheep, hand sheared by myself and then washed and hand-carded here on the farm. I decided to make the reverse of this rug a little more interesting and wet felted a pattern using tan brown and cream wool. This rug has a rugged wild look about it just like the hardy little sheep themselves.

Description

Handmade felted fleece ‘vegetarian sheepskin’ rug made from a local Welsh Mountain sheep fleece.

This fleece would work best as a display piece or photo prop. Due to the coarse hairy nature of Welsh Mountain fleeces this rug does shed a lot more than the average rug. Meaning it would not work well as a throw on a chair or sofa or be suitable for a high traffic area. This factor has been reflected in the price. Being made of only wool (and the odd bit of hay…) it is completely biodegradable and kind to our planet…

Dimensions: Measurements taken on the fleece side are at the longest approx 86cm long x 66cm wide. The rug has a natural shape and so some areas measure a bit wider or narrower.

Wool texture: The feel of this fleece is rough, coarse and hairy. The locks vary in length.

Colour: The colour of this rug is a natural creamy-white with gingery hairs amongst the fleece. It has a natural tan and white reverse.

VM(aka hay/grass seeds etc): I spent some time removing the most noticeable bits of debris collected in this fleece throughout the year, bits of hay and grass seeds mostly.. However, you may find bits of dry leaves etc as this is a natural unprocessed handmade piece..

The photos of the sheep are not the sheep who grew this particular fleece but of our own lovely Welsh mountain sheep Nettle.

We keep a well-loved, high welfare, colourful flock of sheep on the Llyn Peninsular in North Wales. Our sheep are a part of the family and each is known by name. All our wool and makes are vegetarian-friendly as we do not breed or sell sheep into the food chain and our sheep live out their natural lives with us. I am a fulltime mum and slave to sheep! In my (none existent!) free time I make things from wool from the sheep in order to sustain them.
